2024 Competition Information

From March 23-24, 2024, Michigan State University College of Law hosted the third annual Moot Court Competition focusing on issues of Gender, Sexuality, and Law. The competition was hosted virtually with all rounds of arguments held online over Zoom.

In 2024, the competition featured 32 teams representing 20 Law Schools (Table 1: Participating Law Schools 2024), and 64 advocates competed in three preliminary rounds. The top eight teams advanced to the quarterfinals for three elimination rounds, four teams advanced to the semi-final rounds, and two teams competed in the final round of the competition.

2024 MSU College of Law Student Involvement
The Student Leadership Team for the Competition included Katie Kennedy ('24), Joshua Cambri ('24), Jessica Boeve (’25), Nick Butkevich (’24), and Kennedy Clothier (’25).

2024 MSU College of Law Team Information
Michigan State University fielded two teams. Team members included Patricia De La Hoya-Velez (’25), Stephanie Diamond (’25), Emma Haiser (’25), Tessa Phillips (’25), and alternate Kennedy Clothier (’25). The team, composed of Tessa Phillips (’25) and Emma Haiser (’25), won the award for Best Brief and made it to the quarter-final round before a narrow loss to the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
