MSU Law Pays Tribute to the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Assistant Dean Ferguson
MSU College of Law students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and remember his legacy of sacrifice for equity and justice in the law. The luncheon tribute on January 22 was organized by the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Equity Services, Mary Ann Ferguson.

The law community was reminded of the powerful impact of Dr. King’s words as they listened to his famous speech, “I Have a Dream,” delivered on August 28, 1963, during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Founder of MSU Law’s Diversity and Equity Services office, Assistant Dean Ferguson hosts this celebration each year to “Continue the legacy of The Reverand Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A legacy of community, unity and peace.”

Dean Sant’Ambrogio
MSU Law Interim Dean Michael Sant’Ambrosio shared his reflections about Dr. King and how he continues to inspire and influence. “Dr. King’s legacy encourages us to confront injustice where we find it and to advocate for unheard and marginalized voices. Diversity, equity, and inclusion at MSU Law is a promise, it’s not just a slogan.”

Following the brief remarks, the students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to refresh themselves on their favorite Dr. King quotes and share their impressions of each. The quotes are featured on the Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington, D.C., and on the U.S. National Park Service website.
