New Law Students Engage with Legal Community to Tackle Access to Justice Issues

August 3, 2023

As the capstone event of Foundations Week, new students will engage with the legal community to tackle access to justice issues. The new class of law students will spend their final morning of Foundations Week traveling to courts, legal service providers, and community organizations to witness, first-hand, what each is doing to ensure that all people have their voice heard, are able to exercise their rights, challenge discrimination, and hold decision-makers accountable.

The morning kicks off with an introductory session on access to justice issues and the challenges of achieving equal access. Students will then board buses and travel to community centers, legal service providers, and courts in the Lansing area to hear from lawyer leaders about how the legal system can be more welcoming, understandable, collaborative, adaptive, and trusted. They will learn what they can do to support justice for all.
