Dean Greene joined with the State Bar of Michigan in celebrating the life and recognizing the remarkable legacy of Percy J. Langster. The first Black prosecuting attorney in the United States elected by the people in 1948, Mr. Langster served as the Lake County prosecutor from 1949-1950.

“It was a privilege to be able to participate in the celebration of a lawyer who stood for public service. And, in the celebration of a community that acknowledged ‘the content of his character not the color of his skin,’” said Dean Greene.

Mr. Langster’s life and legacy will be commemorated on a bronze plaque that was unveiled during the Michigan Legal Milestone event hosted by the State Bar of Michigan. The plaque will be on permanent display at the Lake County Courthouse in Baldwin, Michigan.

MSU College of Law staff joined Dean Greene in celebrating the legacy of Mr. Langster. Attending the event were Frank Aiello, Chief of Staff; Mary Ann Ferguson, Assistant Dean for Diversity and Equity Services; Margie Aimery, Facility Conference/Event Coordinator; and Alfonso Nickson, Field Career Services Coordinator.
