Job searching after graduation can be a daunting process. Information given by professionals allows students to gain a sense of what to expect when applying for employment.

Last week, Middle Eastern Law Student Association (MELSA) and the Career Services Office at Michigan State University College of Law, hosted an info session for students to gain knowledge and tips on searching for jobs after graduation.

Although the event was hosted by MESLA, all students within the law college were welcome to attend.

“I was a member of MELSA when I was in law school,” said Lavon Ammori, Assistant Director of Career Development. “MELSA reached out to me to see if I wanted to collaborate on events here. We invite all student organizations to host events with career services to offer specific resources.”

Topics such as targeting attorneys and employers, knowing what resources are available within the college, and networking were all discussed.

“As a 3L I have heard this information before but is always helpful,” said Sarina Sarai, ’23. “Even learning about cold calling employers, something I have never done, was great to listen to.”

Being a minority in any job profession can be challenging and some try to diminish their backgrounds while in the workplace while others do not.

“I’m blessed to be a Middle Eastern,” said Joseph Alsedawi, ’24. “I embrace it all the time and is something I don’t hide. Some people would stray away from mentioning that but I’m the complete opposite.”

As law students continue to work this academic year, CSO will continue to educate and assist students with their law school journeys and will always be available for questions or concerns.
