Two MSU Law Students Selected for Prestigious 2022 Rural Summer Legal Corps Fellowship

Anna Henson ’23 and Ashley Wilkie ’24 have been selected for a prestigious 2022 Rural Summer Legal Corps Fellowship. Selected from 333 applications, Anna and Ashley are two of 40 law students who will serve in the program.

Each summer, Equal Justice Works partners with Legal Services Corporation (LSC) to support law students who want to give back to rural communities across the United and its territories. Program participants, called Student Fellows spend eight to ten weeks during the summer exploring a career in civil legal aid, by providing direct legal services and building capacity at the organizations where they serve.

Anna will be hosted by Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Inc, where she will work within the organization’s Basic Unit (housing, benefits, and consumer law) and their Family Law and Victims’ Rights Unit to provide legal services to low-income clients throughout Aroostook County, Maine. Hosted at Michigan Indian Legal Services, Ashley will assist staff with community outreach and planning for on-site and/or virtual clinics and help staff with preparation of estate planning document drafting (e.g., wills, powers of attorney, patient advocate forms).
