MSU Law Team Reaches Semifinal at TYLA Competition

Michigan State University College of Law topped teams from eight other law schools in Michigan and Ohio in advancing to the semi-final round of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) National Trial Competition. The regional event was held virtually on February 26-28, 2021.

The three-person team was comprised of second-year students, Amanda Delekta, Garrett Dolly, and Jack Rucker. Brittany Campbell, ’11, coached the team.

“We are proud of the students’ determination to succeed in trying a case in the virtual environment. They did a superb job adapting to presenting testimony and exhibits on Zoom, and were among the most prepared advocates there,” said Veronica Valentine McNally, the assistant dean for experiential education.

The students are members of MSU Law’s Board of Advocates, which enjoys a strong tradition of success and has competed in several virtual competitions during the 2020-21 academic year. The Board consists of a select group of second- and third-year students who compete against other law schools in appellate, arbitration/trial, and mediation/negotiation competitions hosted by law schools and bar associations throughout the United States.
