MSU Law Welcomes Incoming Class of 2016 Juris Doctor Candidates

Each year at Michigan State University College of law, the incoming class brings their unique experiences and talents to our community. This year’s 268 students come to MSU Law from 31 states and 135 undergraduate schools. Their undergraduate studies vary widely, with 47 different majors which range from English to biology to film production.

Approximately half of the incoming students are from out-of-state. Half the students are women, and 21% are minorities.

Students arrived at MSU Law for Immersion Week on August 22, 2016. Immersion Week introduces students to law school life with a one week crash-course in how to “think like a lawyer.” In their Foundations of Law class, students learned how to read a legal opinion and how to brief a case as practice for their first substantive classes.

Immersion Week also included an opportunity for students to participate in one of several three-hour service projects at community and non-profit organizations throughout the greater Lansing area. Students and faculty involved in the service projects then returned to the Law College for a barbecue reception.

The service project is coordinated by the MSU Law Office of Student Engagement as part of its mission to create and develop community connections by organizing outreach efforts for students throughout the year.
