MSU Law Hosts Annual Diversity Week Events

Michigan State University College of Law hosts its annual Diversity Week 2013: “Interwoven Pieces” on Monday, February 25 through Friday, March 1. More than a dozen diverse student organizations help plan the series of events that take place at the Law College Building in the Castle Board Room Monday through Thursday and the Student Engagement Office on Friday.

This year’s events focus on topics such as law and religion, 21st-century families, law firm diversity programs, and more. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Mohammad Khalil, Professor, Michigan State University
  • Frank Ravitch, Professor, Michigan State University College of Law
  • Thomas McMillen-Oakley, Professor, Jackson Community College
  • D. Lee Khachaturian, Attorney, Dickinson Wright
  • Elizabeth Fossel, Attorney, Varnum
  • Hannah Brenner, Professor, Michigan State University College of Law

A community service project throughout the week will be held to collect socks for the Michigan Youth Opportunities Initiative for foster care youth and young adults.

“Michigan State Law has been a trendsetter in opening its doors to individuals from across the global community since its founding in 1891,” said Mary Ferguson, director of Diversity Services at MSU Law. “By recruiting and retaining a diverse student body, MSU Law continues its century-long commitment to providing a superior legal education to qualified individuals from all communities, supported by the resources of one of the world’s leading research universities.”

The event is sponsored by the Diversity Consortium, the Multicultural Executive Council, the Master of Laws (LL.M.) Student Association, the Student Bar Association, and Wellness in Practice.
