Stacy Erwin Oakes appointed to MSU College of Law Board of Trustees

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State University Board of Trustees has appointed Stacy Erwin Oakes of Saginaw to the MSU College of Law Board of Trustees.

Oakes is an assistant attorney general for the state of Michigan. She is also lead developer of Erwin Properties LLC, which developed Erwin Senior Estates in Buena Vista Township, Mich.

"I am honored to be appointed to the MSU College of Law Board of Trustees," Oakes said. "As an MSU law alumna, I am excited about assisting in carrying out the school's platform and witnessing the return on our investment in future MSU College of Law alumni."

After graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Ferris State University, Oakes earned her law degree from the Michigan State University Detroit College of Law. While there, she was an instructor for the Rental Housing Clinic.

Oakes is a former corrections officer. She has also worked as a policy analyst for the Michigan House of Representatives and as a law clerk for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.

"We are pleased the MSU Board of Trustees has appointed Stacy Erwin Oakes to the College of Law School Board of Trustees," said Clif Haley, president of MSU College of Law. "With her impressive background and as a recent graduate of the law college, Ms. Oakes' appointment will add a fresh perspective and important voice to the board."

Oakes' experience in academia includes adjunct teaching at Saginaw Valley State University and social studies teaching at Saginaw High School.

"Stacy Erwin Oakes is a law college graduate who has earned a reputation as a dynamic leader and dedicated attorney. She is well respected for her accomplishments as a leader in both law and business," said Joan Howarth, dean of MSU College of Law. "We are honored to have her join the Michigan State University College of Law Board of Trustees."
