MSU Law Rental Housing Clinicians Provide Legal Assistance to Area Homeless

Several students volunteer at Project Homeless Connect Fair

East Lansing, MI — Michigan State University College of Law Rental Housing Clinic students recently served at the Greater Lansing Homeless Coalition's annual Project Homeless Connect fair. The student clinicians provided legal assistance for homeless and at-risk persons.

"I am extremely proud of our student clinicians that they can not only provide legal assistance to these individuals in need, but that they recognize the importance of serving their community," Elan Stavros Nichols, staff attorney and professor of MSU College of Law Rental Housing Clinic, says. "Their inclination to serve will undoubtedly help them succeed in the legal profession while also helping those in need."

The volunteers from the Rental Housing Clinic provided educational brochures and general rental housing information, as well as referral of these individuals to MSU Law's Clinics for legal assistance.

The fair served several hundred homeless and at-risk individuals and featured different types of services they are in need of, such as employment, benefits, health care, and legal assistance.
