Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law will host an awards ceremony and reception for the participants in this summer's Council on Legal Education Opportunities (CLEO) on Friday, July 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Castle Boardroom (Room 343) of the Law College Building. During the ceremony students will be recognized for their participation and will receive certificates of completion. The featured guest speakers are Michigan Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Weaver and MSU-DCL Dean Terence Blackburn.

MSU-DCL is the first Michigan law school to host a CLEO summer institute in more than thirty years, and is only one of three other law schools holding the institute this summer. A non-profit project of the American Bar Association Fund for Justice and Education, CLEO is designed for minority and low-income students who have been admitted to a law school or who are interested in pursuing a law degree. The institute measures students' capacity for learning and resembles the vigorous first year of law school. It emphasizes the development of law-related techniques, including abstract thinking, analysis, and reading and writing skills.

Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law is located on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing. Founded in 1891, the college is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the American Association of Law Schools
