MSU College of Law

Elective Courses

Our comprehensive menu of elective courses enables students to shape their legal education based on their individual goals and interests. Upper-level students can choose to focus on a particular area of law, earn a certificate in a specialized practice area, or complement their legal education with an advanced degree in another field of interest. Students can also take up to six (6) credits in professionally-related MSU graduate level coursework toward the 88 credits required for graduation from the Law College.

Not every elective course will be offered each semester. Students are strongly encouraged to seek guidance on course selection and discuss their academic plans with the associate dean of student engagement, associate director of student engagement, or faculty members. Law College staff present programs periodically during the first year to help students plan their upper-level course schedules.
