“The camaraderie between classmates and upperclassmen is astounding. Even in first-year classes of more than eighty students, professors’ open door policy permits additional clarification beyond the classroom, and allows students and professors to create a personal bond.”

Anna-Catherine Norwood chose MSU College of Law because she found the MSU's legal clinics enticing and because she received a full tuition scholarship. “MSU has a top-ranked flagship law journal and numerous legal opportunities that provide real world experience,” she said. “Additionally, the small community of students fosters a collaborative educational environment balanced with enough competitiveness to encourage improvement.”

Anna is a student clinician in the Investor Advocacy Clinic. “Under the supervision of an attorney, I work closely with clients who suffered losses as a result of broker-dealer misconduct. I submit claims on behalf of the client to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) that initiate FINRA arbitration or mediation proceedings,” she said.

Anna also served as a legal extern at Michigan's Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Corporations Division. There, she interpreted new statutory language and determined its implications based on current regulations. Additionally, she drafted legal memorandums and bill analyses of the developments in corporate regulations that would impact local businesses.
