“The experience in representing real clients, managing cases, and attending court provided opportunities to learn in ways a classroom never could. It gave me insight into client representation and case litigation that put me ahead of my peers when applying for attorney positions.”

As an associate in a default management practice, Dustin McMahon represents large mortgage banking and loan servicing clients. He prepares and files court pleadings, attends contested and litigated matters, and participates in alternative dispute resolution. “Our practice allows me to attend hearings in small claims court, various circuit courts throughout Wisconsin, as well as both Federal District Courts within the state,” he said. “I routinely manage cases ranging in topic from eviction and foreclosure to bankruptcy and mediation.”

Dustin takes pride in his frequent court appearances in various types of cases. “While other firms may not allow such broad access to the courtroom for a young associate, I am thrilled to be responsible for numerous litigated matters on a regular basis,” he said. “I enjoy providing thorough representation in a multi-faceted and often legally complex industry.”

Dustin feels that he received an excellent education at MSU Law, and a considerable amount of that value came through his participation in the Housing Law Clinic. “The experience in representing real clients, managing cases, and attending court provided opportunities to learn in ways a classroom never could,” he said. “The real-world experience gave me insight into client representation and case litigation that put me ahead of my peers when applying for attorney positions.”

During his time as a student at MSU Law, Dustin was routinely impressed by the passion his professors displayed for the subject matter they taught. “Every professor made it a priority to be available for one-on-one discussions outside of class. Their commitment to every student on a personal level helped me greatly when I had a question or needed further clarification of lecture material. Having such ease of access to experts in their field undoubtedly helped me with my academic success.
