“Students are always willing to help one another by sharing outlines, talking through class materials, and forming study groups.”

As a law student at MSU College of Law, Kate McClymont was a member of the International Law Review and the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute (TPI). “Being on the International Law Review greatly improved my research skills and also showed future employers I am a capable writer,” she said. “As someone who was terrified of public speaking, the Trial Practice Institute really helped improve my oral advocacy skills, which prepared me for job interviews.”

Kate found that MSU College of Law fostered a friendly environment for students. “While the first year of law school is intimidating, it's manageable because students are always willing to help one another by sharing outlines, talking through class materials, and forming study groups,” she said. In particular, she recalled that professors like Professors Johnson and Bean had extensive office hours and were always happy to help students.

To get through law school, Kate recommends that students remember to take the occasional break and have fun. “You'll never get through if your head is always buried in a book,” she said. “Be a nice person. The law profession is service-oriented, so word of mouth could really help—or hurt—your career.”
