“The skills I honed at MSU Law propelled my writing to another level, without which I would not have the position I hold today. I was fortunate to have professors who really pushed my mind further than I thought it could go, and taught me to think on my feet and to speak clearly.”

Evan Garray is a legal writer and editor for an information services company. She helps create products such as newsletters, booklets, online references, giving guides, and other resources in the areas of estate planning, business insurance, continuing education, retirement planning, charitable giving, and taxation. The focus of her work is to present complex legal information to clients in a readily understandable format.

"The most rewarding aspect of my position is that my work educates and enables people to make charitable donations to worthy causes, plan for retirement, and otherwise accomplish their life goals," Evan said. "The products I create help people, which is ultimately why I went to law school. I greatly enjoy the fact that I still work in the legal field, though in a non-traditional manner."

Evan said the skills she honed at MSU Law propelled her writing to another level. "I was fortunate to have professors who really pushed my mind further than I thought it could go, and taught me to think on my feet and to speak clearly," she said. "I was initially terrified of the Socratic Method, but it was the closest thing to court room experience I had before passing the bar. In addition, Decedents Estates and Trusts, a course I took as a 3L, also opened a door for me in that it exposed me to an area of law which I enjoy."

For Evan, one of the biggest strengths of MSU Law is that the professors were genuinely invested in student success. "I never once got the impression my questions were an annoyance or distraction to someone trying to finish a scholarly article or manuscript. The faculty sincerely wanted us to learn and become excellent attorneys, and it showed," she said.
