“Through MSU Law, I have the chance to study a third and fourth year at the University of Ottawa and graduate with both an American and Canadian law degree. ”

Crystal Chow chose MSU Law because of her familiarity with Michigan and because she wanted the option to practice law in Canada. "Through MSU Law, I have the chance to study a third and fourth year at the University of Ottawa and graduate with both an American and Canadian law degree," she said.

She described her 1L experience as having been very different from her former working life. "What has helped the transition to full-time study is the community feel – sharing all my classes with 70 other incoming students who are also eating, sleeping, and breathing law school. I’ve also met upper-level students who have been quick to help and advise me," she said. "I have been most challenged by my Research, Writing, and Advocacy instructor, Professor Stephanie LaRose, who conveyed in her teaching a passion for and expertise in criminal law that convinced me to consider pursuing a career in this area of law."

No matter how busy Crystal's studies are, she said it has been important to get away from books to achieve some semblance of balance. "I have been exploring Lansing by finding good places to eat and being outdoors," she said. "I wish I had known the true value of sleep, exercise, and real dinners, which may quickly become scarce commodities!"
