Student-Owned Computer Support Policy
Students are responsible for maintaining and caring for their laptops.
The Technology Services department will assist in getting student laptop on the College’s networks, installing Student Distributed Printing and provide general advice for other issues, assuming the following conditions:
- Laptop has a valid licensed copy of Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating software with all current patches.*
- Laptop is in good working order, and is free of spyware and viruses.**
- Laptop has an up-to-date antivirus software program with a valid license for regular virus signature updates.
- Student has all the necessary network card(s) installed or has the related installation software.
For all other laptop support, students should contact their laptop’s manufacturer or MSU’s ACNS Help Desk at (517) 432-6200 or help@msu.edu.
* If possible, students are expected to run Windows/Microsoft Update before seeking technology assistance.
