BUILDING A HOMETOWN CAREER

“It’s great to be back in Detroit, because this is home. At one point, Detroit was in real trouble, but today it’s a global destination city. It’s great to be a part of Detroit’s comeback story.”

Angela Baldwin, ’16, Transactional and Litigation, Associate, The Miller Law Firm, P.C.

Growing up in the Detroit area, Angela L. Baldwin, Esq., knew that she would return to the city of Detroit – and she did just that. Baldwin’s practice focuses on complex business litigation, class action matters, election, municipal and regulatory law, and corporate transactions.

Hailing from Western International High School, Baldwin knew she wanted to return to the city and serve her community.

“As the first in my family to pursue a higher education, I understand the struggle that many kids in the inner-city experience. I always knew I wanted return to Detroit and help educate kids on their options and on higher education,” said Baldwin.

Baldwin started her career in Florida, where she managed brands such as Gatorade, Tropicana, and Propel during her Project and Supply Chain Management career at PepsiCo. But Baldwin always had a passion for the law.

While at MSU Law, Baldwin particularly enjoyed the mock trials, noting its usefulness in her current career in litigation today.

In her previous position as Assistant Corporate Counsel for the City of Detroit, she litigated complex commercial matters in the Federal and State courts on behalf of Mayor Mike Duggan’s Administration, the Detroit City Council, Police and Fire, and Transportation agencies in matters alleging constitutional violations, 28 U.S.C. Section 1983 matters, and other claims.

In Detroit, she sees a city that is only moving “forward from here on out,” and being able to develop her career at home is extremely rewarding.

“I see so many more people downtown and a lot of people are moving from the suburbs to the city. There’s a lot more business development and the city’s skyline is truly changing. It’s go time in Detroit!”
