North Carolina Racial Justice Act

No person shall be subject to or given a sentence of death or shall be executed pursuant to any judgment that was sought or obtained on the basis of race."

The General Assembly of North Carolina took a big step forward in its efforts to eradicate racism in its justice system with the enactment of the North Carolina Racial Justice Act. The law allows people facing the death penalty to present evidence of racial bias, including statistics, in court.
