TPI to Host Judge Lorna Propes

The Trial Practice Institute at MSU Law will host the Honorable Judge Lorna Propes of the circuit court of Cook County, IL, as part of the annual TPI lecture series.

All MSU Law students are invited to attend on Thursday, March 24, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A networking reception will immediately follow the lecture, and will include refreshments. The lecture will take place in the Moot Courtroom, and is titled "Persuasion in the Courtroom."

“Our students learn trial skills – Judge Propes has made an impressive career out of applying those skills in the courtroom,” said Veronica Valentine McNally, director of MSU Law’s Trial Practice Institute. “Her lecture is a unique opportunity to see what the career of a prominent trial attorney looks like.”

Judge Propes has served on the circuit court since 2010. She will speak about her courtroom experience, which includes nearly 100 jury trials over her three decades in practice. From her early days as a a Cook County prosecutor to her later work in private practice, Judge Propes’ career has ranged from advocating for victims of negligence to representing major corporations in class action liability cases. She was one of the first women in Illinois to handle major felony cases.

Judge Propes has been a faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy for 35 years, and is an expert on trial advocacy and technology in the courtroom. She has been described as one of Chicago’s leading trial lawyers, and was named one of the city’s “30 Toughest Lawyers” by Chicago Magazine.

The event is open to all members of the MSU Law community. For more information, contact TPI Director Veronica Valentine McNally (valent29@law.msu.edu).
