New Tenured Faculty for 2015-2016 School Year

Professors Jennifer Carter-Johnson and Michael Sant’Ambrogio earned the rank of tenured faculty this year. To achieve tenure, the professors must receive approval from other tenured faculty members, approval by Dean Joan Howarth, and approval by the President of Michigan State University, Louanna K. Simon.

Sant’Ambrogio earned his J.D. as a Root-Tilden-Kern Scholar, as well as his M.A. in American History, from New York University. He clerked for Associate Justice Steven H. Levinson of the Supreme Court of Hawaii and then practiced law in New York City. Sant’Ambrogio teaches Constitutional law, the regulatory state, and administrative law. He also currently serves as a consultant to the Administrative Conference of the United States on a project studying the aggregation of administrative proceedings by federal agencies.

“I am thrilled to have been granted tenure at MSU College of Law and join the ranks of such a dynamic, productive, and collegial faculty,” said Sant’Ambrogio. “Teaching at MSU has been the most rewarding experience of my professional career. I love working with the students here, writing about the law, and participating in the broader life of the Law College. For me, tenure is not only a vote of confidence by my colleagues and the University, but an invitation to make the most of an incredible opportunity to have a positive impact on the law and people's lives.”

Carter-Johnson earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Virginia and her J.D. from University of Michigan. She practiced intellectual property law in Seattle, WA and served as a visiting faculty fellow at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She teaches property, patent law, and the biotechnology seminar at the law college.

Carter-Johnson said, “I think of MSU Law - its faculty, students, alumni and staff - as a bit of an extended family. Tenure is a show of support telling me that my crazy ideas about interdisciplinary science and law work are appreciated. And that, just maybe, they see me as family, too.”
