MSU Law Kicks Off International Law Event with Live Ice Sculpture Carving

The Michigan State International Law Review kicks off its annual symposium with a live ice sculpture carving of Lady Liberty in front of the Law College from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. The winner of the journal’s Instagram contest for the best ice carving photo will receive a Starbucks gift card.

This year’s symposium, “Neither Here Nor There: A World of Shifting Populations,” highlights current issues surrounding international migration and immigration later in the week. Topics include international migration and development, managed migration, migration policies, climate change and migration, and migrant integration. The event will feature keynote addresses by Dr. Demetrios Papademetriou of the Migration Policy Institute and Migration Policy Institute Europe and Dr. Alejandro Portes of the Center for Migration and Development at Princeton University.

“I am excited about launching the 2014 ILR symposium with the live ice sculpture carving of Lady Liberty,” said Zadora Hightower, executive editor of the journal. “The symposium will be an excellent opportunity to discuss the happenings in immigration and international migration, as well as misconceptions about the topic.”

“Neither Here Nor There” will be held at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, and in MSU Law’s Castle Board Room from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21.
