MSU Law Sweeps First Place Awards at Transactional LawMeet Regionals

East Lansing, MI — Michigan State University College of Law Small Business & Nonprofit Clinic students won both first place awards presented at the Third Annual Transactional LawMeet Regionals. The event—a “moot court” experience for students to practice and showcase transactional lawyering skills—was held in Springfield, Massachusetts, in February.

Brittany Marvin and Annalisa Grunwald, both 3Ls, took home top honors in both award categories: best team negotiation and best draft. The pair will compete in the national LawMeet in Philadelphia on March 29 and 30.

Coached by Clinical Fellow Reid Felsing and Professor Nicole Dandridge, the team showed a keen understanding of the issues presented at the regional competition. “The judges praised the team, declaring that their grasp of the facts and relevant law was unrivaled,” said Professor Dandridge. Despite representing the weaker of the two positions at the event, the team quickly obtained the upper hand throughout three, hour-long rounds of negotiations.

The primary goal of LawMeet is to provide participating teams with an engaging simulation and hands-on practice to hone their transactional lawyering skills. Each event presents problem solving challenges reflective of the daily issues encountered in corporate transactional law. More information is available at transactionalmeet.lawmeets.com.
