Finding Federal Legislative History Using Resources Available at MSU

Introduction

A. Purpose and Scope of this Guide

This guide is designed to help you to do a legislative history using the MSU Law Library, the MSU Main Library, and various on-line resources. Major sources are briefly described and their locations within the Law Library are provided. This guide is designed primarily for law students or attorneys with little or no experience in doing a legislative history; it is not a comprehensive treatise on the subject, but rather a concise summary of the more important current sources of information that are available.

To locate print materials in the Law Library collection on a given topic, begin with a search of the on-line catalog, MAGIC. Call numbers of the selected titles discussed in this guide are provided in brackets, e.g., [KF 62 1927 .W45]. Unless otherwise indicated, the location of print materials is in the Level 1 stacks; microfiche materials are located on Level 2 in Room 216. Consult the Librarians at the Reference Desk for further assistance in using the collection.
