Student Life

Meet new people. Find your niche. Explore your options.

Your main focus as a 1L needs to be on studying and learning strategies for academic success. However, it also is important to find time to make connections and take advantage of the many activities available at and around MSU Law. As a 1L, simply explore your options. Attend events, keep an open mind, and meet new people.

Tips for 1Ls

  1. Attend the Student Group Fair from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th.
  2. Attend one event for a student group during the fall term that you are interested in. Be brave and go that first time.
  3. Be friendly and open in new situations. Leave your assumptions of what law school and law students are like at the door. Be yourself.
  4. Spend your time and energy on academics, but make time to meet a few new people to build your community and support system.

The Office of Student Engagement

The Office of Student Engagement oversees and supports all student life endeavors at MSU Law. We can help you find your passions as you move toward becoming an upper-level student. If our existing student groups don’t meet your needs, contact Caroline Kingston (ckingston@law.msu.edu) to discuss the possibility of creating a new group when you are an upper level student.

Student Group Fair

Join us for the Student Group Fair on the Law College front lawn from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th. Snacks, goodies, and representatives from more than 50 student groups will be on site.
