Biography: Prior to joining the Law College as a visiting professor for the 2008-09 academic year, Professor Lyons taught Torts I and II, Products Liability, Federal Taxation, and Jurisprudence as an associate professor at Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
With academic interests in Constitutional Law and interdisciplinary studies, Professor Lyons has published numerous articles in scholarly journals involving overlapping legal and philosophical questions on the nature of intention, practical reason, foreseeability, free choice and culpability. Professor Lyons graduated cum laude from Notre Dame School of Law 1994. He served as Articles Editor of the Journal of College and University Law. He also holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of St. Thomas, in Houston, Texas.
Professor Lyons practiced at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP in San Francisco, where he focused primarily on the litigation of mass tort and products liability cases. Prior to joining Skadden Arps he clerked for three years on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Professor Lyons is a member of several professional legal and academic groups including the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics, the American Philosophical Association, and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.
He teaches Torts I, Bioethics and the Law, Complex Civil Litigation, and Tort Theory at the Law College.
