  • Biography

    Andrew J. Gerdes of Lansing, Michigan focuses his practice primarily on bankruptcy law issues, representing debtors, trustees and creditors in both the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan. He started Capital Bankruptcy (a/k/a Andrew J. Gerdes, P.L.C.) in February, 2005. Before that, he was a partner with Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP where he practiced for nine years in the litigation and bankruptcy departments. Previously, he served as a research attorney at the Michigan Court of Appeals and law clerk for Judge Michael G. Harrison at the Ingham County Circuit Court. Mr. Gerdes graduated from Michigan State University in 1983 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and graduated cum laude from Wayne Law School in 1992 where he was a member of the National Moot Court team and was awarded the Order of the Coif. From August, 2012 through July, 2014 he served as the Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the Bankruptcy Section of the West Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA). He is a frequent presenter at the FBA’s annual bankruptcy seminar. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and has presented at ABI’s Hon. Steven W. Rhodes Consumer Bankruptcy Conference and Central States Bankruptcy Workshop and at the Debtors’ Bar of West Michigan annual seminar. He is an adjunct professor at Michigan State University College of Law.
