MSU College of Law

Experience is Everything

Our graduates are prepared with client-ready skills and a portfolio of real-world experience that potential employers increasingly value.

Pursue your individual interests from among 10 practice areas at the MSU Legal Clinic, a high-energy law firm environment where student clinicians work with real clients with real legal problems. You will gain valuable hands-on experience, all while discovering your niche as a lawyer.

Learn the fundamental concepts of litigation while perfecting your trial skills through participation in the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute—one of the most rigorous and comprehensive trial practice programs in the nation. Or polish your advocacy skills by arguing before federal and state judges, practicing attorneys, and law professors as part of the Moot Court & Advocacy Board. Develop mediation, arbitration, and negotiation skills through our Alternative Dispute Resolution program to be better positioned as a highly effective client advocate.

There perhaps is no better way to build your professional network and portfolio of experience than with an externship. Choose from hundreds of externship sites throughout the country and abroad, including one of the cornerstones of our program—the Washington, DC, Semester Program, where you will gain valuable on-the-job training at a federal agency in the nation’s capital.

These examples represent only a few of the many opportunities at MSU Law for you to refine your skills as a future Spartan lawyer. Our goal is simple: provide you with the foundation of legal knowledge and the practical skills and experience necessary to have a competitive edge in the legal marketplace.
