SBNP Clinical Fellow Published by University of Virginia and University of California
Small Business and Nonprofit Law Fellow Caroline Kinsey has recently been published by the University of Virginia, Sports and Entertainment Law Journal for her Article, "CSI: From the Television to the Courtroom." The Article identifies, describes and analyzes the various mechanisms that may be employed by courts, prosecutors, and defense attorneys to combat heightened juror expectation of and demand for scientific evidence and may be found online at 11. Va. Sports & Ent. L.J. 313.
Professor Kinsey has also received a publication offer from the University of California, Hastings School of Law for her newest Article, "Smashing the Copyright Act to Make Room for the Mashup Artist." The Article will be published in the Spring 2013 edition of the Hastings Communications & Entertainment Law Journal and encourages reform of the United States Copyright Act to better accommodate Mashup Artists and protect new and innovative creations.
She has been invited to speak at classes and journal meetings across the nation to discuss these works and the impact they have on future trial or intellectual property attorneys. -

Small Business & Nonprofit Students Making a Difference
Small Business & Nonprofit (SBNP) Clinic student, Lisa Ferro served as primary counsel for Latter Rain Outreach, a non-profit organization formed to provide assistance to individuals who suffer from substance abuse, including those with nonviolent criminal backgrounds. With Ms. Ferror’s assistance and support, Latter Rain Outreach is now registered as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Latter Rain Outreach has been an SBNP client since 2010, when its founder, Ms. Henry, contacted the clinic for legal advice in helping the organization obtain a Charitable Solicitation License.
SBNP Clinic student, Ben Farneth served as primary counsel for The Concannon Foundation, Inc., during its final stages of obtaining tax-exempt status. The Concannon Foundation is a family-run charitable organization that provides financial assistance in the form of educational grants to individuals and businesses with the purpose of promoting the arts and entrepreneurial ventures. Through Mr. Farneth’s advocacy, The Concannon Foundation, Inc. is now registered as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The SBNP Clinic has been servicing The Concannon Foundation, Inc. since February 10, 2010.

MSU Law Professor Dandridge Receives Grant to Research Barriers to Economic Development »
Michigan State University College of Law Associate Professor Nicole Dandridge, director of the Law College's Small Business and Nonprofit Law (SBNL) Clinic, recently received a $25,000 Michigan Applied Public Policy Research grant to identify legal and government barriers to entrepreneurial activity and job creation in the state. Dandridge and SBNL Clinic students will conduct the study, with a focus on restrictions that interrupt the economic environment of Detroit and hinder Michigan's ability to be more "business friendly".
