Getting Help at the Rental Housing Clinic
How do I contact the Housing Clinic at MSU College of Law?
Clinic hours may vary each semester. Contact the Clinic at 517/336-8088 for current clinic hours. Individuals will be seen on a first-come, first served basis. During the summer semester, the Clinic is only taking new clients who reside in East Lansing. If you reside in East Lansing, please call 517/336-8088 ext. 13 to schedule an appointment.
Do I need to bring anything when I visit the clinic?
Yes. It will be helpful to bring copies of any lease documents, receipts, waivers, photographs, videos, or any other documentation that you may have that relates to the specific matter at hand.
Who will I be talking to?
Second and third year law students who have carefully studied Michigan and East Lansing law as it pertains to rental property. These students will be under the supervision of the Clinic Director and Public Interest Fellow.
The law students staffing the clinic are prepared to provide legal counseling, dispute resolution and if necessary, represent clients in court. Clinic staff maintains the confidentiality of information relating to each client.s matter.
How can a law student provide legal counsel?
Under Michigan Court Rule 8.120, law students who are supervised by a member of the state bar may provide representation to clients served by legal clinics organized by an ABA-accredited law school. Michigan State University College of Law is an ABA accredited law school.
