MSU Law: Rental Housing Clinic
Welcome to the MSU College of Law Rental Housing Clinic
The Michigan State University College of Law Rental Housing Clinic is dedicated to educating students in the fundamentals of legal practice, while providing the highest-quality landlord-tenant legal services to low-income members of the community. Here, student clinicians learn from experience–a skill they will carry with them throughout their professional lives. Student clinicians also develop reflective self-evaluation habits that encourage continuous professional growth. Rental Housing clinicians cultivate trial practice skills by instituting and conducting proceedings on behalf of their clients in Michigan district courts. The Rental Housing Clinic encourages respect for pro bono work on the part of its student clinicians, all of whom assist with the needs of persons who traditionally have limited or no access to meaningful legal representation. In addition, the Clinic engages in community-based activities designed to prevent housing problems by informing individuals about their rights and obligations under Michigan law as a tenant or landlord.
The Rental Housing Clinic of MSU College of Law is a legal aid clinic that is a cooperative effort of the Michigan State University College of Law and the City of East Lansing. The Clinic provides services to tenants and landlords who have some type of rental property issue. The Clinic offers traditional legal counsel as well as educational programs for tenants and landlords. More information on our educational materials is available in our office. Clients will be responsible for paying all related court costs, such as filing fees.
