Career Preparation Services
Career advising is available by appointment to all MSU Law students and alumni. Topics discussed during advising sessions include career decision-making, self-marketing techniques, job search strategies, and researching employers.
Applicants are encouraged to have their resumes reviewed and edited before submitting them to employers. Appointments may be scheduled with advisors, or resumes may be dropped off, faxed or e-mailed, and picked up after they are reviewed.
Resume and Cover Letter Seminars
Seminars are scheduled throughout the academic year. Topics include principles of creating and preparing proper, correct and concise materials that will ensure higher potential for success in seeking employment.
Job seekers may become familiar with the interview experience by participating in formal mock interviews conducted by practitioners from local law firm, by alumni and by Career Services advisors. A formal program is held before on-campus interviews to provide students with practice opportunities. Appointments also may be scheduled at any time with advisors.
Free informational programs, offered throughout the academic year, provide information on preparing for, and developing, a legal career. Topics include legal employment options, job search advice, and business protocol and etiquette.
Use of Office Equipment
Career Services houses computers (including Word and WordPerfect), a copier, a fax machine, a flatbed scanner, and phones for students and alumni to use during job searches. The Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory on CD also is available.
