Here’s what you can do:
• Advise students who contact you for information and suggestions.
• Mentor students.
• Interview on campus, accept resumes, and post openings on eAttorney.com.
• Provide referrals.
• Hire MSU-DCL students and graduates.

Information is available from Career Services at 517/432-6830 or career@law.msu.edu.

MSU-DCL Chapter Clubs Cross the Border

Toronto alumni have formed MSU-DCL’s second chapter club, and Oakland County (Michigan) and Chicago alumni are not far behind. Alumni in Grand Rapids, Michigan, organized their club several months ago. Chapter clubs typically sponsor fundraisers, receptions, tailgates, and educational and social activities to provide networking opportunities for club members.

The MSU-DCL alumni relations staff continues to develop chapter clubs nationwide. For more information about forming a chapter club or becoming a member of a club, e-mail Alumni Relations Director Laurie Schaibly at schaib20@law.msu.edu.

Toronto Event Brings Together Students and Alumni

The MSU-DCL alumni relations and admissions offices combined efforts on July 11 to bring Toronto-area alumni and current students together at a special reception. The event, at the Canoe Restaurant in downtown Toronto, included presentations by Toronto-area alumni who shared their law-school stories and information about their current careers in Canada.

IN MEMORIAM
Donald Castle: MSU-DCL Trustee for
Nearly 50 Years

MSU-DCL recently lost longtime supporter, benefactor and trustee Donald L. Castle, ’36. Castle, who passed away July 18, 2002, served on the board for nearly 50 years and was strongly devoted to the law school’s financial and educational advancement.

Castle completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and entered DCL in 1931 while facing the difficult challenges of life during the Great Depression. At the same time, he was managing a full-time job with the J.L. Hudson Company.

After graduating from law school in 1936, he remained with J.L. Hudson, ultimately serving as the executive director of the Hudson-Webber Foundation from 1956-1969 and as a board member of the Foundation from 1943-1980. Following his service there, he practiced law for 32 years in Birmingham, Michigan, where he remained until 1999. Castle also was an active philanthropist, and his notable efforts included negotiating funds for specialized, isolated polio units at his son’s summer camp and assisting the University of Michigan in developing major fundraising strategies.

Castle’s donations to MSU-DCL have earned him recognition in the John J. Danhoff Society, which acknowledges cumulative gifts and pledges of $1 million and higher. In addition to his remarkable and continual contributions to the law college, he also was a prominent academic figure and symbol of integrity. He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from DCL in 1978 and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1997. Castle served on the Board of Trustees for 48 years, the longest term ever served by an alumnus, and remained active in fundraising efforts and landmark decisions within the college.

He is survived by his children, Kathy and Bill, his sister, Charlotte Paton, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
