Edward D. Gold

Edward D. Gold, ’64, was elected to a three-year term as a national vice president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is a senior shareholder and family law attorney with Butzel Long of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Gold also was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for 2003-2004.

Louis W. Kasischke, ’67, was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for 2003-04. He is a member of the Taxation and Estates Practice Group at Dykema Gossett, P.L.L.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He focuses on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate taxation, estate planning, executive compensation, syndications, Michigan tax, financing incentives and bond financing.

The Honorable Augustus C. Agate, ’69, was elected treasurer of the Board of Judges of the New York City Civil Court Judges. He will serve a one-year term.

1970-1979

The Honorable Gary J. Allen, ’70, was re-elected to his fourth term as 80th District Court judge serving Clare and Gladwin counties.


E. Patrick Murray

E. Patrick Murray, ’70, established his practice under Murray and Bond, P.L.L.C., in Mount Clemens, Michigan. He specializes in employment and labor litigation, fiduciary liability, and trust and welfare benefits. He also serves as a mediator in commercial, employment and trust matters.

The Honorable Marianne O. Battani, ’72, United States District Court judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, was honored by Dominican High School and Academy with an Outstanding Alumna Award at the second annual President’s Circle Dinner on October 5, 2002.

Herschel P. Fink, ’72, was named in the 10th edition of the Best Lawyers in America for 2003-2004. He heads the media law practice and is a partner in Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, L.L.P., in Detroit.

R. Darryl Mazur, ’73, was elected 12th District Court judge.

Richard S. Victor, ’75, spoke at the Delaware State Bar Convention on November 12, 2002, in Wilmington, Virginia. He has also been elected president-elect of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for 2003-2004. He has a private practice, Richard S. Victor, P.L.L.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Walter Bieber, ’76, completed a Michigan State Court Administrative Office approved 40-hour General Civil Mediation Training Course conducted by the Resolution Center in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.


Rodger A. Kershner

Rodger A. Kershner, ’76, joined Howard & Howard, P.C., as Of Counsel, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He focuses his practice in corporate and real estate law and environmental matters.

Alan J. Barth, ’77, joined the Offices of Dr. Mark Friedman, Ltd., of Tel Aviv, Israel, concentrating in domestic and international trademarks, and commercial contracts.

Glenn A. Pearson, ’77, was sworn in as 94th District Court judge for Delta County, Michigan.


Gregory V. Murray

Gregory V. Murray, ’78, was selected for inclusion in the 2002-03 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the labor and employment law category. He is a shareholder with Vercruysse Metz and Murray, PC, a firm specializing in management labor and employment law.

Robert Nyovich, ’78, joined Clark Hill, P.L.C., in Detroit as part of the premier Education and Municipal Law Group. Nyovich focuses his practice on labor and employment, education, business, family and criminal law.



Mary F. Mann

Mary F. Mann, ’79, joined Strobl, Cunningham, Caretti and Sharp, P.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Mann specializes in equipment leasing and financing.







1980-1989

Richard L. Caretti, ’80, was appointed to the Macomb County 16th Circuit Court by former Governor John Engler.

William Cassetta, ’80, was named in the Best Lawyers in America 2003-2004. He is a partner in the health care department with Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, L.L.P., in Detroit.


James P. Cunningham

James P. Cunningham, ’80, was elected president of the Oakland County Bar Association. He is a member of Williams, Williams, Ruby and Plunkett, P.C., in Birmingham, Michigan.

Beverly J. Hayes-Snipes, ’80, was elected judge of the 36th District Court of Michigan.

Ronald Sandler, ’81, is executive vice president of Quatrophonic Music Corporation and president of Quatro Records, Ltd., which was created to market to undiscovered musical talent in the Great Lakes area.

Patrick E. Cafferty, ’83, was a presenter at “Making the Drug Industry Play Fair,” a forum held in Washington, D.C., and hosted by senators McCain and Schumer. He spoke on anticompetitive practices in the pharmaceutical industry. He is an associate with Miller, Faucher and Cafferty, L.L.P.

Barton B. Burnett, ’86, joined Pearson, Horowitz and Poskus, P.C., in Denver, Colorado. He specializes in bankruptcy law.

Paul F. Condino, ’86, was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives for the 35th District of Michigan (Southfield, Lathrup Village, Royal Oak). He also serves on the Criminal Justice, Judiciary, and Tax Policy committees in the House of Representatives.

Stuart A. Best, ’87, joined the law firm of Weltman, Weinberg and Reis Co., L.P.A., as an assistant. He will be working in the Litigation and Defense Department of the Detroit office.

John W. Dunham, ’87, re-joined Dykema Gossett, P.L.L.C, as a staff attorney in the Employee Benefits Practice Group in the Detroit office. He focuses on all areas of employee benefits law.

James A. Fink, ’87, joined Reach, Ranney and Carpenter, P.C., in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He focuses on federal civil rights defense, municipal liability, land use and zoning, real estate and landlord/tenant matters.

Col. Robert H. Johnston, ’87, was installed as commander of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base for the 127th Wing, the host wing at the base. Prior to this installment, he served as vice commander for two years.


Clara DeMatteis Mager

Clara DeMatteis Mager, ’87, was elected chairperson of the International Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan during the annual meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is an attorney with Butzel Long in Detroit and is manager of the firm’s Immigration Law Group.

Orlans Associates, P.C., was chosen as Michigan Designated Counsel for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation for its Michigan foreclosures. The firm is owned and managed by Linda M. Orlans, ’87.

David N. Stringer, ’87, opened a practice in Chicago, concentrating in probate and estate matters.

Thomas P. Branigan, ’88, was named as one of the most successful young litigators in America by the National Law Journal’s “40 Under 40” section. He is a partner with Bowman and Brooke in Detroit, where he practices product liability, commercial litigation and employment matters.

Margaret A. Costello, ’88, received the 2002 John W. Cummiskey Pro Bono Award during the State Bar of Michigan’s annual meeting in Grand Rapids. She is an attorney with Dykema Gossett in Lansing, Michigan.


Elizabeth A. Jamieson

Elizabeth A. Jamieson, ’88, was elected to serve a three-year term on the State Bar of Michigan’s Representative Assembly, which reviews current guidelines and sets new policies for the State Bar of Michigan. She currently is an attorney with Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt and Howlett, L.L.P., in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Stephen M. Pahides, ’88, recently returned from a 179-day activation as deputy center judge advocate at Walter Reed Army Medical Center located in Washington, D.C., as a major, judge advocate in the United States Army. He received the Meritorious Service Medal awarded by the President of the United States through a major general.

Nicholas S. Andrews, ’89, participated in a presentation titled “Damages in Michigan Civil Trial Practice” in March. The seminar was sponsored by the National Business Institute, Inc.

David M. Foy, ’89, became a shareholder with Berry Moorman, P.C., in Detroit.

Richard D. Kuhn, ’89, was elected to the 51st District Court in Waterford, Michigan.

Charles L. Shady, ’89, is a general manager-tax for Mercedes-Benz USA in Montvale, New Jersey.


1990-1999

Terrence R. Haugabook, ’91, was hired as an assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. He formerly was an assistant Wayne County prosecuting attorney for more than seven years.


Priscilla J. Krebs

Priscilla J. Krebs, ’91, joined Vercruysse, Murray and Calzone, P.C., in Bingham Farms, Michigan. She specializes in immigration law.

Lawrence Oliver II, ’91, joined Perkins Coie, L.L.C., in Chicago, Illinois, as a partner. He formerly was an assistant U.S. Attorney.


Robert L. Stearns

Robert L. Stearns, ’91, joined Howard & Howard, P.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He specializes in intellectual property law.

Catherine B. Steenland, ’91, was elected to the State of Michigan 39th District Court, serving Roseville and Fraser.

Hugo A. Delevie, ’94, joined Brinks, Hofer, Gilson and Lione as an associate in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The firm specializes in intellectual property law.

Richard A. Roble, ’94, became a shareholder with Sullivan, Ward, Bone, Tyler and Asher, P.C., in Southfield, Michigan. He specializes in bankruptcy, debtor/creditor rights, construction lien litigation, general corporate litigation and landlord/tenant law.

Jane E. Tate, ’94, became an associate with Terrence M. Lee, Attorney at Law, L.L.C., in Honolulu, Hawaii. She will focus her practice on family, business, transactional, real estate and Internet-related law. Prior to this position, she spent one year as an AmeriCorps Attorney and two years at the Domestic Violence and Clearinghouse Hotline, assisting victims of domestic violence with family court issues.

Meredith R. Weingarden, ’94, formerly agency counsel with Chicago Title Insurance Company, joined First American Title Insurance Company as state counsel. She also gave birth to her second child, Emilie Renee, on October 4, 2002.

Karen M. Adkins-Bley, ’95, will serve on the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) advisory panel focused on nursing professional issues. She is a registered nurse for the Women’s Birthing Center at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Randall J. Solomon, ’95, joined McDonnell, Conley, Arslanian and Neveux, L.L.P., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as an associate. He concentrates on estate planning, trust and estate administration, taxation and corporate law.


Marvin D. Wilder

Marvin D. Wilder, ’95, Lillian F. Diallo, ’95, and Larry R. Polk, ’93, formed a new Detroit law firm, Diallo, Carson, Wilder and Polk, P.L.L.C., which specializes in criminal and civil litigation.

Robert A. Wright, III, ’95, joined Dawda, Mann, Mulcahy and Sadler, P.L.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He concentrates in corporate, finance, real estate and tax law, corporate mergers and reorganization law. He also represents financial lending institutions and borrowers in real estate related finance transactions.

Daniel J. Checkowsky, ’96, joined Plunkett and Cooney in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Law Practice Group, and focuses on patent, trademark and copyright law.

Dean D. Meriwether, ’96, was elected to the Board of Governors of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri, as chairman of the Suburban Lawyers Section. He also is an associate with Dubail Judge, P.C., in St. Louis, Missouri.

Jon B. Munger, ’96, a shareholder of Kemp, Klein, Umphrey, Endelman and May, P.C., was named to the firm’s board of directors. He concentrates his practice in estate and trust litigation, probate law and estate and trust administration.

Elliot B. Oppenheim, ’96, wrote The Medical Record as Evidence (Lexis 1998).

Timothy S. Arnold, ’97, joined Braun Kendrick Finkbeiner, P.L.C., in Saginaw, Michigan, as an associate in the litigation department.

Anthony J. Eppert, ’97, joined Branton and Wilson, A.P.C., in San Diego as a senior associate. He specializes in employee benefits, executive compensation and employment taxes, primarily representing corporations.

Eric Scott Glick, ’97, and Jodi Lynn Frankel were married in April 2003.

J. Zachary Greenwell, ’97, became a partner with Greenwell and Frazer in Marion, Kentucky. He concentrates in real estate, probate, school and corporate law. He also is the Crittenden County School Board attorney and represents several financial institutions as a loan closing attorney.

Roberta C. Archer, ’98, joined Clark Hill, P.C., in Detroit. She is an associate with the Litigation Practice Group, and focuses her practice on litigation, labor and employment law. She was formerly assistant prosecuting attorney with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Honorable Robert Bondy, ’98, was elected to the 52-1 District Court bench in Novi, Michigan.

Angela E. Boufford, ’98, joined Butzel Long, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as an associate. She focuses her practice in securities arbitration and commercial litigation.

Joseph S. Bush, ’98, became a shareholder with Culver, Sheridan, Even and Franks in Muskegon, Michigan. He focuses on construction law, commercial litigation and insurance defense.

Jonathane M. Ricci, ’98, founded Juroviesky and Ricci, L.L.P., a United States law practice in Toronto, Ontario.

Sepideh B. Venier, ’98, was promoted to assistant vice president, special assets legal officer, for Monroe Bank and Trust in Monroe, Michigan.

Michael C. Williams, ’98, left private practice in August 2002 to accept a position as senior contract analyst with Michigan Electronic Transmission Company (METC), L.L.C., in Ann Arbor, Michigan. METC is the nation’s first independent stand-alone transmission company.

Nancy E. Bojesen, ’99, opened a private practice in DeWitt, Michigan, focusing on elder law.

Carrie L. Ciliberto, ’99, formerly with Holder and Ciliberto, P.C., opened Ciliberto and Associates, L.L.C., in Denver, Colorado. She concentrates in water, environmental, natural resources, real estate/development/land use law and litigation.

Kevin P. Cummings, ’99, joined Cummings, McClorey, Davis and Acho in Livonia, Michigan. He focuses on labor and employment, workers compensation, litigation and criminal law.

Jami Ferguson, ’99, joined the Cook County Public Defender’s Office in Chicago. She also gave birth to Owen Patrick Ferguson on October 7, 2002.

The Honorable Kwame L. Kilpatrick, ’99, spoke at Central Michigan University at Plachta Auditorium for Black History Month in January 2003.

Sanjay H. Patel, ’99, is employed by the Cook County State Attorney’s Office, and currently is assigned to the Juvenile Justice Bureau, prosecuting criminal delinquency cases.

David M. Peterson II, ’99, completed a three-year tour in Norfolk, Virginia, as a Navy JAG Corps officer. He is now in private practice with Butzbaugh and Dewane, P.L.C., in St. Joseph, Michigan.

George W. Rendziperis, ’99, joined the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, law firm of Dawda, Mann, Mulcahy and Sadler, P.L.C., as an associate. He concentrates in corporate, tax and real estate law.

Matthew E. Thompson, ’99, joined Kupelian Ormond and Magy, P.C., in Southfield, Michigan, as an associate in the firm’s Commercial Bankruptcy Group.



2000-2002

James Carlos Canady, ’00, joined Heard, Robins, Cloud, Lubel and Greenwood, L.L.P., in Houston, Texas, as an associate. He specializes in medical malpractice, personal injury and commercial litigation.

John Patrick Kapitan, ’00, and Nancy Ann Chapman were married in March 2003.

Christina L.C. Martens, ’00, joined the law offices of Ronald J. Plunkett in Brighton, Michigan. Martens specializes in criminal defense litigation.

Debra K. Rousseau, ’00, and Andrew Bouck were married in April 2003.

Alicia Urbain Sikkenga, ’00, joined the Michigan House Republican Policy Office as legal counsel in Lansing. Prior to this appointment, she was an attorney in former governor Engler’s legal division and the Office of Regulatory Reform.

Shannon K. Alsip, ’01, and Gregory L. Ozga, ’01, were married in January 2003.

Nels A. Christopherson, ’01, joined Plunkett and Cooney, P.C., in Lansing, Michigan. He focuses on litigation, municipal law and medical liability issues.

Creighton D. Gallup, ’01, joined Pentiuk, Couvreur and Kobiljak, P.C., in Wyandotte, Michigan. He specializes in civil litigation, including landlord/tenant, family law and collection matters.

George E. Keller, ’01, and Carey Renee Amato were married on October 19, 2002.

Michael L. Taylor, ’01, was admitted to practice in front of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He currently is an associate with Harness, Dickey and Pierce, P.L.C., assisting clients in intellectual property.

Joseph Bizon, ’02, is the new assistant prosecutor for the 19th Circuit Court.

Amy S. Brugam, ’02, became an associate with Fraser, Trebilcock, Davis and Dunlap, P.C., in Detroit. She specializes in employee benefits.

Jill Kathleen Brunt, ’02, and James Chadwick Hauff were married on August 17, 2002. She also joined Harmon Law Offices, P.C., in Newton, Massachusetts. She practices in their Real Estate Foreclosure Department.

Molly L. Clark, ’02, joined McGinty, JaKubiak, Hitch and Housefiled, P.C., in East Lansing, Michigan, as an associate. Most of her caseload involves prosecuting misdemeanors for the City of East Lansing as an assistant city attorney.

Anthony Fazioli, ’02, joined the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office in Somerville, New Jersey.

Colleen K. Heibeck, ’02, joined Howard & Howard Attorneys, P.C., in Lansing, Michigan. She concentrates her practice in corporate, tax, creditor’s rights, commercial finance, nonprofit, estate planning and commercial litigation.

Tyson F. Howard, ’02, is pursuing his LLM in corporate and finance law at Wayne State University School of Law in Detroit, Michigan.

Stacy Huston, ’02, started a program in April 2002 called LifeHorse, which allows terminally ill children to visit her farm to ride and pet horses. She resides in Ortonville, Michigan.

Kristine N. Lapinski, ’02, joined Dykema Gosset, P.L.L.C., in Lansing, Michigan, as an associate. She is a member of the Government Policy and Practice Group and focuses on corporate matters, education law and public utilities regulation.

Lesley E. McIntyre, ’02, and Stephen T. McKenney were married on August 17, 2002.

Julie A. Rajzer, ’02, joined Clark Hill, P.L.C., in Detroit. She is an associate with the Business Practice Group and focuses on intellectual property law.

16th Annual Judicial Clerkship Program


Each spring, MSU-DCL hosts its annual Judicial Clerkship Program for students interested in obtaining judicial clerkships after graduation. Judges assisting this year were, left to right, Justice Robert P. Young, Jr. of the Michigan Supreme Court, Judge David W. McKeague of the U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan, and Judge Kirsten Frank Kelly of the Michigan Court of Appeals. On the far right is MSU-DCL Professor Glen Staszewski, who moderated the program.





RWA Classes Hold Final Arguments


The Research, Writing and Advocacy department held its final oral arguments for first-year students in the spring.
