MICHIGAN
Detroit Area
After a two-year hiatus, the 19th Downriver Dinner was held in May at the Grosse Isle Yacht Club. Special thanks to host Ronald Stempien, 56.
Lansing Area
More than 70 alumni attended an alumni reception at the 66th Annual Meeting of the State Bar in September 2001.
The MSU-DCL National Alumni Association hosted breakfast and lunch for all MSU-DCL alumni taking the Michigan Bar Exam in February 2002. Since 1998, the association has provided the meals to alumni exam takers. Debra Geroux, 95, association secretary, who has planned this service for many years, reports, Providing meals to alumni taking the bar exam is a great use of alumni association dues monies. I have attended each meal and am surprised with the gratitude expressed each time by these alumni.
Grand Rapids
The Grand Rapids Alumni Chapter Club held its second event in February 2002 at the Waterworks Pub on Monroe Street. The chapter plans an additional event in the fall.
Traverse City Area
In October 2001, alumni judges attended a gourmet dinner and wine tasting event hosted by MSU-DCL at Bel Lago Vineyard in Cedar, Michigan. Future plans include an additional event for judges this coming fall.
CHICAGO
Sixteen alumni gathered in March at Heaven on Seven on Michigan Avenue for their first chapter club function.
WASHINGTON, D.C., AREA
In March, alumni met at the Army and Navy Club to discuss the direction of the college with Dean Terence Blackburn, Alumni Relations Director Laurie Schaibly, 00, and Development Director Virgil Allen. Alumni representing 57 years of the colleges history attended.
Kimberley Murphy, 00, hosted an evening reception for young alumni at the Capitol City Brewing Company in Arlington, Virginia.
TORONTO
In April, alumni gathered for dinner at Joe Badalis Restaurant. The group plans to host a July reception for Canadian students enrolled in, or considering, the colleges externship and dual-degree programs with the University of Ottawa.
