1950-1959

John D. O’Hair, ’54, received the State Bar of Michigan’s 2001 Frank J. Kelley Distinguished Public Servant Award. He served in several areas before retiring in 2000.


1960-1969

JRussel C. Wells, ’64, retired after 33 years of patent law practice with Siemens Corporation in Auburn Hills, Michigan.


Honorable Lawrence P. Zatkoff

The Honorable Lawrence P. Zatkoff, ’66, was elected district court representative of the Judicial Conference of the United States, the principal policy-making body for the federal court system. He is the chief judge of the Sixth Circuit for the Eastern District of Michigan.

William C. Fulkerson, ’67, was elected to serve as the chair of the Administrative Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He is a partner with Warner Norcross and Judd, L.L.P., in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and specializes in environmental law, administrative law and alternative dispute resolution.

Robert J. Stephan, ’67, was appointed to the board of directors of Chemical Bank West in Cadillac, Michigan. He was previously director of Bank West Financial Corporation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, prior to its acquisition by Chemical Financial Corporation and subsequent merger of Bank West into Chemical Bank West. He is currently president of SecureOne Benefit Administrators, Inc., in Grand Rapids.

Lawrence R. Donaldson, ’69, was re-appointed to serve as a member of the Michigan State Board of Accountancy. He is an attorney with Plunkett and Cooney of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and specializes in malpractice litigation involving lawyers and certified public accountants.

J. Dallas Winegarden, ’69, was requested by President George W. Bush to serve at the Gun Summit in an attempt to bring Democratic and Republican leadership together on formulating U.S. safety laws. He was featured on the Today Show, Dateline and Court TV. He practices personal injury, victim rights and children’s safety law in Genessee County, Michigan.


1970-1979

The Honorable Dennis W. Archer, ’70, received the State Bar of Michigan’s 2001 Michael Franck Award, and the American Jewish Committee’s Judge Learned Hand Award.

The Honorable Robert L. Ziolkowski, ’70, was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of Life Directions, Inc., which provides peer mentoring and motivation for the Detroit Public Schools.

David W. Christensen, ’72, became a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a senior shareholder of Charfoos and Christensen, P.C., in Detroit.

Justin G. Fox, ’73, retired as an FBI special agent in April 2002 after having served almost 23 years.

James C. Thomas, ’74, was elected to a third term as treasurer of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers.


Honorable Bill Callahan

The Honorable Bill Callahan, ’75, participated in a conference in Boston sponsored by the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic Violence. He shared his knowledge of, and experience with, domestic violence at three different workshops during the conference.

Denise Alexander, ’76, joined the law firm of Butzel Long in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She specializes in all areas of family law and is a member of the Michigan Inter-Professional Association (MIPA), the Women’s Economic Club and a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Donald F. Carney, ’76, was elected to a four-year term as commissioner for the City of Birmingham, Michigan. He is also a shareholder of Berry Moorman, P.C., in Birmingham.

Dr. Robert John Davis, ’77, opened his practice, Metropolitan Dental Center, in Waterford, Michigan.

James P. Hallan, ’77, was elected secretary of the board of directors of the Delta Dental Plan of Michigan and the Delta Dental Plan of Ohio. He is also president and chief operating officer of the Michigan Retailers Association.

The Honorable Gary K. Reed, ’77, was appointed to serve as chief judge of the Calhoun County (Michigan) Probate Court for a two-year term.

James N. Erhart, ’79, was appointed commissioner-at-large of the State Bar of Michigan. He is a partner and shareholder of Stroup, Erhart and Wurster, P.C., in Petoskey, Michigan.


1980-1989

Herbert J. Gilles, ’81, rejoined the firm of Arter & Hadden, L.L.P., in Dallas, Texas. He specializes in commercial collection and creditors’ rights.

Mark F. Hayes, ’81, joined the risk management department of Cumberland Farms, the largest privately held convenience store chain in the United States. He heads the worker compensation section and directs the litigation of claims in all jurisdictions.

Steven M. Kaplan, ’81, was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve as a member of the State of Michigan’s Committee on the Rules of Criminal Procedure. He is an assistant prosecuting attorney in Macomb County and serves as an adjunct law professor for MSU-DCL.

The Honorable James K. Kersten, ’81, was appointed district court judge of the 33rd District Court by the Michigan Supreme Court.

Douglas C. Bernstein, ’82, joined Plunkett & Cooney, P.C., as a member of the firm’s Banking and Finance Practice Group. He specializes in commercial litigation, loan restructuring, commercial loan documentation, loan workouts, bankruptcy, banking-related litigation and appeals.


Wallace G. Long


Wallace G. Long, ’82, joined Howard & Howard in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as an attorney. He works extensively in municipal, health care and employment law matters. Long is also a certified arbitrator for the American Health Lawyer’s Association Dispute Resolution Service.

Thomas D. McElgunn, ’82, was appointed special marketing representative for the Philip T. Greco Title Company in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.

Gary E. McKenna, ’83, joined Aon Risk Services as a risk management consultant.

Michael H. Traison, ’83, spoke to students at the University of Windsor Law School on the topic, The Effects of Globalization on the Legal Profession. He is an attorney for Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., in Detroit, where he specializes in bankruptcy, workout and international business.

Bradley A. Vauter, ’83, had an article published in the July 2001 Michigan Bar Journal regarding unclaimed funds in class action settlements and the application of press and fluid recovery theories.

Emily J. Lewis, ’84, opened her new firm, Law Offices of Emily J. Lewis in Dublin, Ohio.

James E. Romzek, ’85, joined Howard & Howard, P.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as a leader of the firm’s Corporate and Real Estate Practice Group. He concentrates his practice in business, corporate and real estate law and related litigation.

Janice K. Selberg, ’85, was appointed head of public services for the Ave Maria School of Law Library. She will coordinate all library user services and handle circulation, stack maintenance and reference responsibilities.


William S. Barnett

William S. Barnett, ’86, was selected as one of 24 fellows in Michigan State University’s 2002 Michigan Political Leadership Class. This monthly weekend class incorporates practical politics, personal leadership development, policy process and analysis, effective governance and campaigning. He is also a Wexford County commissioner and a sole practitioner in Cadillac, Michigan.


Dorothy M. Hanigan Basmaji
Dorothy M. Hanigan Basmaji, ’86, joined Vercruysse Metz & Murray, P.C., in Bingham Farms, Michigan, as a shareholder. She focuses her practice on immigration matters.

Jeanne M. Dunk, ’86, joined Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith, P.C., as the primary lawyer in the firm’s expansion of its Health Care Practice Group in the Farmington Hills, Michigan, office.

Sheryl K. Silberstein, ’86, became an associate of Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth, Heller and Pesses, P.C., in Southfield, Michigan.

Maureen E. Thomas, ’86, was promoted to vice president for Pulte Homes, Inc. She is responsible for nationwide claim and litigation management and prevention.

Warren C. Evans, ’87, was appointed division chief in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. He is responsible for juvenile prosecutions, review of police shootings and custody deaths in Wayne County.

Kurt D. Gallinger, ’88, joined Dykema Gossett, P.L.L.C., in Lansing, Michigan, as part of the government policy and practice group. He concentrates on the financial services industries with emphasis in insurance regulatory and legislative matters.

John Smallman, ’89, of the U.S. Navy recently completed a deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Persian Gulf as the special agent/attorney for the U.S.S. Constellation Battle Group. His duties included investigation of major criminal activity and deaths as well as force protection.


1990-1999


Joseph E. Turner

Joseph E. Turner, ’90, was appointed commissioner of the State Bar of Michigan Open Justice Commission. He is also co-chair of the Commission’s professional development program and is a member of Clark Hill’s Business Practice Group. He specializes in real estate, municipal finance and business transactions.

Paul J. Carrier, ’91, moved to Lovell’s Prague office. He specializes in mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and financial matters.

David E. Hart, ’91, became a shareholder of Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth, Heller and Pesses, P.C., in Southfield, Michigan.


William G. Asimakis

William G. Asimakis, ’92, joined Clark Hill, P.L.C., in Detroit as a member of the Litigation Practice Group. The Law Office of William Asimakis recently merged with Clark Hill’s Detroit office.

Jason J. Young, ’92, announced the opening of a full-time practice in Traverse City, Michigan, specializing in the procurement, licensing and enforcement of U.S. patents and trademarks. He has been a registered patent attorney since 1993.

Timothy A. Dinan, ’93, recently moved and expanded his practice in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan.


Gail A. Eynon

Gail A. Eynon, ’93, joined Bodman, Longley & Dahling, L.L.P., in Detroit as a partner. She concentrates her practice in bankruptcy and debtor-creditor rights.

Kurt P. Hauffe, ’93, won a $1.2 million plaintiff’s verdict in the Saginaw 10th District Court. He is a shareholder in Hauffe & Hauffe, P.C., in Saginaw, Michigan.

Claire Katherine Heritage was born to Katherine K. Heritage, ’93, and William H. Heritage, ’93, on January 28, 2001.


Eric O. Husby

Eric O. Husby, ’94, joined Clark Hill, P.L.C., in Detroit, as an associate of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. He represents clients in employment and discrimination claims, including breach of contract, wrongful termination and harassment matters.

Geraldine Johnson, ’94, became a manager and group specialist for Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., P.P.L., designed to help middle-income Americans acquire affordable legal assistance.


Nicholas S. Kazmerski

Nicholas S. Kazmerski, ’94, opened a solo law practice in Farmington Hills specializing in general civil and criminal litigation.

Sean E. Reagen, ’94, has recently moved to Grand Blanc, Michigan, as tax counsel for the Dow Chemical Company. He focuses on mergers and acquisitions.

Robert J. Shapiro, ’94, is serving as a New York City volunteer attorney for the ABA/FEMA Disaster Legal Services in the wake of the September 11 tragedy.

Michele M. Welz, ’94, joined the Chicago law firm of French, Kezelis & Kominiarek. She specializes in medical malpractice defense and civil rights law.

Maria N. Wittmann, ’94, is the assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to this position, she was an assistant state’s attorney in Bradenton, Florida.


David E. Barnes

David E. Barnes, ’95, joined Dykema Gossett, P.L.L.C., in Detroit, as part of the firm’s Corporate Finance Practice Group. He has extensive experience in general corporate law matters with emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, securities law and loan transactions.

Stuart M. Heath, ’95, attorney at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., transferred from the firm’s Detroit office to its Troy office, where he is a member of the Product Safety Practice Group. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar Association.

Stephen LaCommare, ’95, joined Morisi & Oatway, P.C., in Quincy, Massachusetts. He concentrates his practice in commercial and real estate litigation.

Angelique Camfield, ’96, married Michael Kuiper in August 2001.


Kitt J. Foster

Kitt J. Foster, ’96, joined Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as an associate. She concentrates her practice in product liability.

Donald L. Knapp, ’96, was elected to a four-year term on the Livonia (Michigan) City Council. As the second-highest vote receiver, he became the council vice president for the next two years.

James D. Molenaar, ’96, completed his LLM in information technology and privacy law at John Marshall Law School in January.

Timothy S. Arnold, ’97, joined Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., in Detroit, as a contract attorney in the Health Care Practice Group. He focuses on medical malpractice and managed health care litigation.

Mark B. Berke, ’97, joined Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, P.C. He specializes in commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, professional liability claims, real property and corporate transaction law.

Richard T. Karcher, ’97, was named head of a newly established sports law practice based in the Detroit office of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, L.L.P. He will assist professional athletes in contract negotiations, salary arbitration, endorsement arrangements and personal appearances.

Craig F. Wininger, ’97, a four-year Shiawassee County (Michigan) assistant prosecutor, was promoted to chief assistant prosecutor. He helps with administrative duties and steps in for Prosecutor Randy O. Colbry when needed to direct the office of six prosecutors and other employees.

Anna Marie Anzalone, ’98, joined the Law Offices of Denis Jodis, P.C. She focuses on general business, family and tax law.

Ella M. Bully-Cummings, ’98, returned to Miller Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., in Detroit, as an associate in the labor and employment group. Prior to rejoining Miller Canfield, she spent 15 months as an attorney for Foley and Lardner.

Sean M. King, ’98, joined the Chicago office of Ernst & Young, L.L.P. He focuses his practice on international mergers and acquisitions.

Bart F. Stasa, ’98, has been promoted to vice president for SmithGroup Incorporated in Detroit. SmithGroup is one of the nation’s largest architecture, engineering and planning firms.


Jordan M. Glassco

Jordan M. Glassco, ’99, joined Dawda, Mann, Mulcahy & Sadler, P.L.C., in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as an associate. She concentrates her practice in real estate transactions, representing landowners, lenders and developers.

Erin O’Brien, ’99, was elected to the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly for the 6th Circuit in Oakland County.

Holly O. Swanson, ’99, joined the Detroit law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., as an associate in the Bankruptcy and Workout Practice Group.


2000-2001

Karl A. Barr, ’00, joined Barr, Anhut & Associates law firm in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He focuses on business, estate planning and tax.
William Robert Bernecker was born to Scott and Natalie Bernecker, ’00, on January 5, 2002.

Scott A. Breen, ’00, joined Foster Zack & Lowe, P.C., in Okemos, Michigan, as an associate attorney. He focuses on business and corporate law.

Jayson A. Chizick, ’00, joined DuBois and Cruickshank in Tallahassee, Florida, as an associate. He focuses his practice on worker compensation insurance defense and appellate practice.

Lawton Connelly, ’00, joined the Gregan Law Offices in Mesa, Arizona, as an associate attorney. He focuses on criminal, domestic relations and probate matters.

Timothy Cremen, ’00, joined Sughrue Mion, P.L.L.C., in Washington, D.C., as an associate. He specializes in legal issues affecting electrical and mechanical patent issues.

Daniel J. Harris, ’00, opened his law practice in Petoskey, Michigan.
