Ravitz Foundation Provides Match Funds for George Roumell Fund

The Ravitz Foundation provided $50,000 to the George Roumell Fund, which honors Professor Roumell’s distinguished career teaching labor and arbitration law.

 ’88 Alum Gives Back to Support DCL Commemorative Plaza

Peter Lucido, ’88, pledged $100,000 to support the planned DCL (Detroit College of Law) Commemorative Plaza and became an ambassador for the plaza effort.

 ’76 Alum Gifts $200,000 to Establish Scholarship for Hockey Players

The Honorable Daniel Downey, ’76, made a $200,000 gift for scholarships designed for law students who were former college hockey players.

Trustee Maurice Jenkins Awards Jackson Lewis Scholarship

For two straight years, Jackson Lewis law firm has provided two students with $2,500 each for their law school studies. Trustee Maurice Jenkins, a managing partner specializing in labor and employment law at the firm, presented the scholarships at the MSU College of Law Board of Trustees meeting in December. This year’s recipients, 2Ls Demaurey Drummond and Tracy Gragston, both have an interest in labor law.

Alpert Foundation Establishes Student Scholarship

The Ida and Benjamin Alpert Foundation established the Myron and Doris Alpert Scholarship at MSU Law with a gift of $48,000. Earnings from this endowed scholarship will provide funds for students who demonstrate financial need. Myron created the Alpert Foundation to honor his father, Maurice, who graduated from Detroit College of Law in 1955.

MSU Law Welcomes Langton Law as the first Public Interest Fellow

Langton

Thanks to the generosity of Trustee Charlie E. Langton, ’87, and his firm, Langton Law, one MSU Law student will receive a $2,500 fellowship grant for summer 2013 work in the public interest sector. The gift will help offset expenses while the student gains invaluable experiences in public interest law during the time of the fellowship. The first Langton Law Public Interest Fellow will be named in spring 2013.
