Grading Standards - Suggested (for Faculty)

First Year Courses (Excluding RWA and Advocacy)*
A variation of five (5) percentage points either way would be within the norm. Grades should reflect upward, rather than downward movement.
- A, A– 25%
- B+, B, B– 35%
- C+, C, C– 35%
- D+, D, F 5%
* Approved by the faculty on November 11, 2009 and effective fall 2009.

Upper Level Courses (Including RWA nd Advocacy)*
A variation of 10 percentage points either way would be within the norm. Grades should reflect upward, rather than downward movement.
- A, A– 30%
- B+, B, B– 40%
- C+, C, C– 30%
- D+, D, F 0%

Seminar Courses
A variation of 10 percentage points either way would be within the norm. Grades should reflect upward, rather than downward movement.
- A, A– 40%
- B+, B, B– 40%
- Discretionary 20%
In addition to the suggested grading curve, faculty members retain discretion to adjust student grades for other factors such as class attendance or participation.
