Description: (Formerly DCL 600) This course will explore the theoretical and jurisprudential basis for enforcement of promises. Readings and discussions will address historical and anthropological conceptions of contract, comparative analyses of the civil and common law of contracts and gift promises, theoretical justifications for state enforcement of promises and modern challenges to contract doctrines and principles such as freedom of contract and private autonomy.
