“MSU Law alums have a dominant presence in the Michigan legal market. Knowing I wanted to practice here, I knew I could learn everything and make all of the connections necessary to break in to the legal market in Michigan.”

Rachael Roseman feels that Michigan State University College of Law is the perfect blend of a Big Ten campus and a small, private university. “After attending a relatively small undergraduate campus, I wanted the comfort of a small school, but I also wanted the atmosphere of a Big Ten university,” she said. “Also, MSU Law alums have a dominant presence in the Michigan legal market. Knowing I wanted to practice here, I knew I could learn everything and make all of the connections necessary to break in to the legal market in Michigan.”

Rachel found that the atmosphere allows students to connect with one another and form lasting relationships. “Additionally, the faculty and staff are welcoming and supportive every step of your career as a law student,” she said.

Her career advisor was particularly helpful during her time at MSU Law. “She encouraged me to come meet with her to assess my career objectives. She critiqued my resume before I sent it out to employers and shared feedback with me from those employers. She not only helped me with the technical requirements of my applications, but she also helped me understand the intangibles employers were looking for,” Rachel said.

During Rachel’s first year of law school, she joined the Student Bar Association (SBA). “It helped me branch out of my comfort zone and meet my peers,” she said. Her two years on SBA also prepared her for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan State Law Review.

Rachel said her time on the Law Review has been pivotal in preparing her career. “All of the skills I learned on the Law Review, like critical thinking, precision, and diligence, transfer over into the legal field,” she said. “Moreover, I got the opportunity to work directly with a faculty member while I wrote my Comment. It also gave me the opportunity to network and interact with students and professionals in the legal community. My work on the Law Review helped me develop my confidence as a leader in the legal community.”
